As a product designer I try to balance business needs with user experience, and as a software engineer I combine good code with speed, and versatility.
I help bring digital projects to life by getting involved hands-on in most of the processes and stages: Strategy, Research, Ideation, Wireframing, Design, Prototyping, User Testing, Frontend Implementation, and Managing Backend Development.
All this while also managing stakeholders expectations, and assessing and fulfilling team requests for implementing new requirements, working within (and sometimes around) the boundaries of the platform.
Worked for one of the biggest practices (vets) umbrella companies in the US. Helped to figure out the integration of some services of two different practices.
Also helped to standardize components and to build the foundations of a design system to apply on the many brands they owned.
Participated in user interviews, created wireframes, final designs and working prototypes using Figma.
Streamlined the UI design by standardizing the site’s components and patterns with a new design system built on Figma. Also lead and participated in the implementation of these new components using HTML and Sass within an Angular environment.
These new components proved their worth when we needed to build a new site quickly while being low on budget and time.
After getting promoted to this new role, we implemented design sprints. Planning, sketching, prototyping, design critiques, user testing, and validation (or rework) happened on a weekly basis.
I had to manage a huge move from Sketch to Figma. This included all the symbols, patterns, and UI designs. All this while we were also working on a redesign.
In the end I’m glad we moved to Figma since it was much better for collaboration and for managing components.
I also created a design system for the engineering team to be able to implement more accurate designs.
Transitioned from software engineering, within the same company, because I was interested in working on design for the company and I took the opportunity when a new design position opened.
Worked on a few internal and external projects. Got to collaborate with the CEO, the Director of Product, the Design Manager, the PM, and the Tech Lead to create a custom team management solution for the company.
Meanwhile I participated in design critiques, user testing, usability, and feedback sessions.
During the implementation of new functionalities, I set myself the challenge to streamline and simplify the existing code within the scope of the story I had to complete.
This approach led code that was easier to read, understand, and maintain. This also meant lighter files, and much less lines.
Identified ways of improving their brand identity and overhauled their image. I helped them improve the UX of their website by identifying users’ pain points and delivering wireframes with solutions.
Kambista is a fintech company and was one of the first online currency exchange services of Perú.
In charge of the visual design and the frontend implementation. Got paired with a top notch backend developer to bring it to life, and communicated frequently with the stakeholders.
This was mostly a remote project, though I got to collaborate in person with the team as well.
Reallo was an online platform where landlords could post their properties so potential tenants could reach out and rent the place directly within the platform. The project was very ambitious.
Worked with them as a contractor for the jobs that required web and app designs, and frontend development.
One big challenge was when they needed to replicate a catalogue from an iOS app to be reusable on websites while sharing the same database. I was paired with a backend developer to tackle this project.
Updated their logo’s design with a much modern and professional look, so it was more in line with their business category, while maintaining its original concept. I also worked on their website, expanding on the new brand identity.
Proatomic is a development company that builds custom apps and websites, depending on their customers’ needs.
Did some frontend maintenance work and implemented new UI designs within a Django environment.
Started out as an intern that after a few months got its wings. Here is where I learned the ways of web design and development. And having a job altogether.
My role changed according to the needs of each project: Graphic design, web design, app design, responsive design, UX design, software engineering, illustration.
Also my deliverables: Logos, icons, graphics, style guides, mood boards, benchmarks, charts, copy, sketches, wireframes, character designs, pixel art, UI designs, admins.
The list can go on and on. Can’t say I didn’t had a blast here!
I assisted senior designers, and also worked on my own producing ads, illustrations, and compositions for print and digital mediums.
Constantly seeking to improve my skills and acquire more knowledge by consulting sources like books, articles, online courses, peers, etc.
I am currently learning JavaScript from a Wes Bos course and Javascript for Web Designers from A Book Apart. I'm looking to master the three pillars of frontend: Structure, styles, and behavior.
I'm also reading through Atomic Design by Brad Frost to improve my knowledge on design systems.
